Alesha Dixon is releasing her third solo international album that’s got a strong dose of India. Her album, The Entertainer, will feature a duet between Dixon and Indian-origin singer Jay Sean, and will also feature a “Bollywood remix” of another song. Dixon, who was in Mumbai recently to perform at the GQ Men of The Year Awards, says, “I love everything about India and its music. I’m trying to learn some Indian songs now, and would love to learn Hindi properly so I can sing or act in a Bollywood film. My mother, who adores India, would love that.”

The singer, who’s also a successful model, host and dancer, has had a strong India connect for many years. She has worked with music producer Rishi Rich, is great friends with Jay Sean, and on an earlier trip to Mumbai, she has also been featured as a model in singer Jazzy B’s music video for the song Kaun nachdi. She chuckles, “On that trip, I was here with my partner, who was working on a music video. I’m a big fan of Bollywood dancing, so I did some bhangra in the video, which was so much fun!”

Her song with Sean, ‘Every part of me’ is an R n B club record that tells a love story. Says Dixon, “Jay and I have wanted to collaborate for years, and it finally happened when we fell in love with the same song, a lovely up-tempo record. Recording with Jay was wonderful… I’m so proud of him for his success.”

The singer promises that the rest of her album will be as much fun, because with the album, she’s gone back to the kind of music she made with Mis-Teeq: “I’ve gone back to what people knew me as. The record’s got a combination of fun and carefree songs, balanced with honest, reflective songs on heartbreak and the pressures women go through.”

Her lead single, Drummer boy, about “women on top” is already climbing the charts, and Dixon believes that the song’s ‘Bollywood mix’ will be huge too.

“When I’m recording a song, I always have a vision of performing it at a live show, because I am an entertainer,” she says. “So I’m trying to work with artists and choreographers in India, to add more dimensions to my show while performing the song. It’ll be fun to launch the album in India with some Bollywood moves.”
