Alesha Dixon was very nearly hospitalised when she kicked off her UK tour this week. The Strictly babe did a mean Mr Bean impersonation after suffering opening night gremlins in Nottingham, ending in her almost knocking herself out. Playlist’s James Cabooter caught up with the glamorous ’Leesh backstage where she explained her Spinal Tap moment.
She said: “So many things went wrong on the first night, including me nearly passing out. Somebody forgot to light a torch after I walked off stage during a song so I walked into a massive black screen. I banged my head so hard I was seeing stars. And because it was so dark I couldn’t find the stairs to get back on again. I was scrabbling around in the dark for ages.”
Fortunately Alesha, 31, regained enough vision to relocate her patient public, only to suffer another injury.
She added: “My head was still spinning when I got back on stage. But when I started dancing I felt something go in my neck. So I’m there, trying to smile, but having to dance very rigidly with my head and neck totally frozen.”Alesha is currently juggling her tour with judging on Strictly Come Dancing. And the workload has taken its toll on her preparation.
She admitted: “I’ve not had enough time to rehearse. The first night was more like a rehearsal and when I came off stage I started crying because so much went wrong. But I think we got away with it.”
Alesha is performing her new single To Love Again – penned by Gary Barlow, 38 – which is out on November 15. And punters with tickets to her show at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire, London, on November 12 could be in for an extra Scandalous-style treat. Alesha said: “My Mis-Teeq girls are coming to see me.”
